Osteonecrosis arthritis or osteo arthritis is one form of arthritis that causes the bone to loose its access to the body's blood supply.
The word osteonecrosis literally means "death of the bone. This word osteonecrosis sounds a little frightening. The resultant effect of the bone loosing its blood supply is death. That is the bone will breakdown and disintegrate. This process is known as a vascular necrosis.
From the beginning of this process the affected bones start becoming soft and porous. Also, becoming brittle and can break easily. This osteo arthritis condition is a very serious one indeed. It can incapacitate the victim. Areas mostly affected are;

1. joints in the hip,
2. joints in the knee
3. joints in the ankle area.

Areas and persons affected by osteo arthritis

However, about 90 per cent of osteo arthritis victims are affected in the hip area. Osteo arthritis disease can occur in several joint areas at a time. Unlike other forms of arthritis, osteo arthritis can affect even the very young. The average age of the beginning of osteo arthritis, about 38 years, is much lower than in some other forms of arthritis. Children and teenagers, can develop one form of osteo arthritis called Legg-Calve-Perth's disease. The tendency for this type of osteo arthritis is to affect the hip or femur more than other joints. Early intensive treatment of this form of osteo arthritis, Legg-Calve-Perth disease, is important, if not, the femur head will usually attempt to heal on its own. But the healing will occur in a collapsed position that causes pain and stiffness.

Symptoms of osteo arthritis.

How do you know if you've developed osteo arthritis. That is, observe osteo arthritis symptoms. One of the first symptoms that most victims note is the feeling of aching and generalized pain in the area of the affected joints. An exact location of the pain can be difficult to pinpoint by the victims at times. This means, some patients who are suffering from pain may have some difficulty describing where the pain originates. For example, some patients may report feeling pain in their groin area, meanwhile, the exact inflammation is often located in the hips.

Causes of osteo arthritis

We need to know how osteo arthritis (osteonecrosis) is caused, and if there is anything we can do to prevent it. One of the best ways to prevent osteo arthritis from occurring is to avoid any kind of hip injury. In most cases, osteo arthritis occur after the joint has suffered from trauma or injury. Fracturing of the joint causes blockage of blood supply to it. This in turn causes the begining of osteonecrosis. Studies have shown that hip injuries may place an individual at a greater risk of developing osteonecrosis. Some studies conducted have reported that about 20 per cent of those who suffer from some form of hip injury usually develop osteonecrosis. However, minor trauma or injuries will not usually cause the begining of osteonecrosis.

Treatment of osteo arthritis.

Treatment of osteo arthritis is different according to each patient's circumstance. In order to combat osteo arthritis, some doctors prescribe corticosteroids to reduce the inflamation. However, most steroid-based drug medications cannot be taken for an long period of time as they may result in dangerous side effects. Your doctor will be able to decide on the most necesary treatment option for your case. Some of the treatment methods are;

1. Drug therapy is usually used in side by side with other treatment options.
